Breakfast Soup

So now that you are hopefully inspired to include bone broth as part of your building qi and blood routine, I'll share a quick tip to incorporate it in the beginning of your day.  Maybe it could even replace your coffee!  Regardless, why not start the day with some proper warm nourishment.

Breakfast seems to be a big topic in my clinic when discussing individual Food as Medicine support.  The most common conversation is how important it is to eat breakfast in the first place.  The second, how a warm breakfast is far more supportive than a cold one.  I LOVE soup for breakfast so I often share the following ispiration to not only get folks to incorperate bone broth, if it is right for them, into their routine, but an easy way to start the day with a warm nourishing meal...Breakfast Soup!

Once you've got your bone broth made, it can be as simple as:

Ingredients:   Bone broth - recommendation: 2+ cups

                      Greens of your chioce

                      Miso paste (I like red)

                      Eggs (i like 2)

Boil a handful of greens chopped small in your bone broth.  Pour a small amount (couple Tbs.) of cooked broth into your bowl, large cup, or your insulated togo container for those on the run (yes, you can still have a warm nourishing breakfast!).  That small amount of broth is to dissolve the miso paste in separately.  Add 1 Tbs.(or to taste) miso paste to that small bit of broth and mix to dissolve.  Next, add your eggs into the bone broth with greens and poach your eggs there.  I encourage a nice quick soft poach so you can pick up that egg with a big spoon and suck out the soft yolk.  When egss are soft poached pour the soup into your container with the miso broth, and done!  I personally find that the miso alone is enough seasoning, though I like "simple". Sometimes I do add some ground pepper if I need some extra warmth.  Any spices can be added as you like.  I'm just setting you up, then explore taking it to another level on your own.  For instance,

If I have a batch of bone broth soup loaded with veg and spice already made up, I just heat some up in the morning and poach a couple eggs in there.  That is my favorite breakfast soup!  Any soup can be "Breakfast Soup"!

It is nice to have a bit of carbs for breakfast to help regulate blood sugar, so adding some cooked simple whole grains (ex: quinoa or rice) to this can be very supportive. Or have with a nice piece of toast.

Hint: If your are taking it to-go in an insulated container, barely cook those eggs so they don't get over cooked inside of that closed container.
